Wow a real indictment of the Honda Type R.

Makes me more likely to get an RS.

Re: 2016 Ford Focus RS

Checked with the local dealer today - they were  alot ed 2 orders, they have one left and are asking an additional $2500 above MSRP.

Thought I was going to buy one as a big "F you" to GM for not offering anything short of a camaro that offers decent "performance".  Then I came to my senses.

Gm could rather easily, they have some rather appealing Opel hatches overseas.

They could take the new Cruze hatch, up rate the 2.0T from the Mali/Regal/Camaro/ATS/CTS to 350hp without much work and throw in AWD.

It makes my blood boil.

I think GM - IMO - doesn't think "performance" for anything less than a Camaro, and really, has entirely stopped thinking "high performance" for anything less than a TT V6 or LS V8.

The Sonic could have been an excellent platform.  They introduced the Sonic RS - "Lets add a body kit, rear discs and a different final drive ratio, it'll be sweet!".   unamused

Gah.

It really pisses me off because you can get a heated steering wheel in the RS.  Old men like me love that shit - and we're too cheap to buy a Cadillac or Buick.   facepalm

arrow-up  If I recall correctly he has a turbo Sonic.  tongue

My buddy told me to expect pricing over MSRP because of the limited supply available for 2016 and the long wait plus all the hype for the first American RS (or first modern RS). Probably best to wait and get one lightly used or a 2017 model after the prices stop getting inflated.

Re: 2016 Ford Focus RS

I do have a turbo sonic.
138hp / 148 lbft stock

Sonic "stage kit" from GM adds 10hp, 15 lbft   facepalm

I've done lots of mods on mine to get it to 165HP and 220 fltlb (Wheel) - but it is still FWD, drum brakes in the rear, shitty unsupportive seats.

It's now a "hot hatch" that can still be embarrassed by most modern V6 sedans.

With a turbo it only puts out 138HP?! Weak sauce.

The more I look at the Civic Type-R, the uglier it gets.  That Mercedes is also pretty bad looking.

Re: 2016 Ford Focus RS

Oh shit. How did I miss speedbot's post back in February. I complete agree with Drew. Wow that Civic is hideous. It's a hatchback that wants to be a sedan so baddddd.  lol

Also, saw one of those AMG hatches the other day. That 1999 spoiler looks so out of place. Ha it needs to act it's age and just have a normal hatch spoiler

You can get a heated steering wheel in a Volt in the package that includes heated steering wheel, seats and mirrors and it's only $460.  It's $2785 to get a similar package in an RS.

Stupid. For the 22k you could get an ST for, nearly doubling the price does not provide much value.

The RS is much more car. Perhaps not double, but significantly more. Also, the ST has an open differential. I love my car, don't get me wrong, but that's lame. I really want to throw the Quaife LSD in there, but for $1000 plus labor... oof.  hmm

Re: 2016 Ford Focus RS

Get a wavetrac!

I'm also a wavetrac dealer.  banana

I think the lower final drive ring and pinion from the forthcoming Fiesta ST+ will fit into the Focus, too and really make the acceleration silly.

The gearbox is *much* easier to deal with than either of my VWs were.  I'm still stuck on trying to get a new R&P into my VW...for over a year I've put it off not wanting to deal with various aspects of the rebuild like shimming that aren't even a step you need to do on the Ford.

Except for GTI is $25k and WRX is $27k

But his point is stupid, the $22k ST you get, like mine has no options so to compare it to an RS with options is rather ignorant.

And both R and STI are about $38-40k.  There is a similar $$$ spread in RS, R and STI.

Re: 2016 Ford Focus RS

Alright, change it to a 24.6k one like mine that's got everything but a sunroof, and tell me where the value is in that additional 15k.

The article talks about how great a value it is for all the power you get, so I used the numbers purely in that context since they don't change between packages. Still overpriced and a bad value.

And yes, same case with the Golf and STI, but then again, you're talking to someone who's owned a WRX and an ST, so what more do you expect? smile
