Man that looks slick. Makes me want to find a 9-3 Turbo X to buy.

Its the power of the 3 spoke!

New Michelins went on today, beefy as hell!

Transformed steering, almost as if it has a faster rack, super responsive.  I can also give it a lot more throttle in first without lighting up the tires.  Once again, no mod can touch a good set of tires.

Re: Soon to be gone BMW 328, replaced with?

Time for some next level shit.

I bought a modified stock turbo and ported manifold.  TD04-15T gets replaced by an TD04-18T and the turbine housing is the larger 6cm housing from 9000 Aero's.  This is a tried and true setup and a 100% bolt on for my car.

I am going to run older T-5 cams which give more top end, put in bigger injectors and a bio-power tune which lets me run 93 pump or E85.  On E85 I am expecting an 65-90whp gain.

Now that I have solid hookup with 245 PSS', throwing power at it will undue that.  So to gain traction back I am going to put in a Quaife LSD which is a direct bolt in from LSD equipped Chevy Cobalts.

So 3600lb wagon, 285-310whp, LSD, good tires and suspension, this will be pretty close to the ideal setup for any modern FWD Saab.

Sounds like a good plan and a nice setup. But this will certainly commit you to the car, and I'd like to see you in a Turbo X Combi.

This car is a keeper.   It's one of 12 '06 manual wagons made in gray.  I do not find the TX appealing due to the size and I did the XWD thing with my wife's '11.  The system scares me to maintain myself as it gets up there in mileage.  To me the 9-5 is special due to its size and 5spd availability and my comfort keeping it running for the long haul.  Once you go smaller for the 9-3 Combi there is offerings like S4 Avants and BMW 328s.

Re: Soon to be gone BMW 328, replaced with?

Makes sense, I didn't realize it was such a rare model. My Turbo X currently has 107k miles and the most unreliable components have been the coils and washer nozzles. I've replaced 4 of each. The XWD has never given me a problem, but I have the huge benefit of living in an area which does not put salt on the road. The underside of the car almost looks new.

XWD factually is heavier and more complicated than the FWD variants.  When something does go on the XWD system is not cheap, readily available or something I would fix myself.  So going 200k miles, you can get lucky, but I have heard enough issues on the forums and from Saab Dealers to prefer to go the distance with my 9-5.  Most reliable car I have ever owned.

Re: Soon to be gone BMW 328, replaced with?

The Turbo X wheels had to go.  I broke the rules by putting on a wheel heavier than stock, never done that before.  They drove poorly and I hit a pothole that bent a wheel, killed a PSS, killed an end link, and killed a Koni.  That was enough for me.  The wheels sold in less than 24 hours to a local guy and sold for what I paid for them even with the bent one.

I replaced them with common/boring Enkies, 18x8, 22lbs each which is lighter than the stock 17" and 25% lighter than the TX wheels.  It rides so nice now, braking and acceleration are better.  Don't mess around with unsprung weight.

There is not a single thing wrong with them lol.

The TX threes were rare and unique, but also polarizing.

Re: Soon to be gone BMW 328, replaced with?

This intercooler will help me out this summer and will be necessary when I install the bigger turbo/ported manifold I have sitting on a shelf. Just need a clutch, downpipe and LSD to be ready for project 300+whp wagon

Re: Soon to be gone BMW 328, replaced with?

Exhaust fitment is perfect.

It's subtle in sound, you hear it most at the bottom of the tach in the first three gears.  It would be too tame for me 10 years ago and I would cut off the resonator.  But for a 9-5 wagon I think it's fitting.

Re: Soon to be gone BMW 328, replaced with?

Intercooler made a nice difference, car feels very uncorked now.

The ported turbo goes in this weekend and I ordered a 3" downpipe too.

So I need to order an upgraded clutch so I can throw in the LSD and crank up the boost.

Re: Soon to be gone BMW 328, replaced with?

Installed a 3.5bar FPR required for my revised tune(clipped turbo and 3" downpipe are on the car).

This thing boogies quite well.  Before the tune I logged 17.8psi.  We were planning to stick with that boost level as I am on stock pistons.  After the tune I saw 20.4psi, a bit much.  So another ecu is going in this week making the same power but reduced boost.  If I had bigger injectors and had forged pistons, the 20.4psi would be fine and I would be making comfortably over 315whp.  I plan to dyno the car soon, on my piston safe tune I should see 270-285whp/320-340ft lbs of tq.

Re: Soon to be gone BMW 328, replaced with?

I made a few runs on a Mustang dyno with my revised tune.  Clutch wouldn't hold sad

Boosted 19psi in 4th, slipped and so it wound up holding a few lbs less and could not hold the power to make peak hp which happens at about 5800rpms.  So the first run was [email protected]/312ft lbs.

So once I get the clutch replaced, I should have my 270whp/330tq which on a Mustang as you know, reads low compared to a Dynojet.  Since the dyno I threw fresh plugs in too which seems to have a smoother sweep of the tach which would correlate to a smoother graph.  I did some logs and it measured .89 G's upon acceleration!

I also ordered an OEM+ Sachs clutch from Germany that drives stock but holds 420ft lbs of tq.  This will go in with the LSD.  I also bought T5 cams which will give the car more top end.

Very happy camper.  The front pads are Powerstop Ceramic, next time I'll do something with a bit more bite like Hawk HPS.  Otherwise, damn.  Very confidence inspiring.

I am having the LSD and Sachs OEM+ clutch install done next week.

I also scored and new Aeromotive 340lph fuel pump and new 630cc injectors for when I go E85 after my engine build up.

Do they make springs that are .5" inches lower and 15% stiffer that what you are riding on? Cuz that would be awesome. You could probably fit a 19" in there, same profile, and fill that gap. Or you could just have a comfortable ride roll.

It's actually quite low in the front and I had to roll the fenders to keep the 245/35/18s from rubbing.  In that pic, the car JUST came down from being jacked, so the springs hadn't settled back down.
