A salvaged car that was totaled in the back?

Yep that's one of the options, just not sure if it's what I want to do. I might actually go with a blobeye front-end.
When I saw a new post from you, I was expecting to see "Take the check and buy a new Subaru from me!"

I would go hawkeye front end, you could find one and swap the 4pot brakes over too

That too. Want to order a 15 WRX?

Alright, got some more official numbers. He's saying the value is $8165 and salvage is $1400, which sounds better. That would give me a $6765 check plus the car. Do you guys think that sounds reasonable?

And he said about $6k to repair? I think that sounds about right in terms of value and salvage values. Ha, I have a poor history w/ salvage title cars - my first car, the 93 325i was totalled, not once, but twice - and I bought my Saabaru w/ a salvage title. ha.
For the bimmer, I got rear-ended at a red light, pushed the bumper in a bit, nothing too terrible, and then when I was driving on a downtown road near Santa Clara University, someone backed out of a driveway, onto the street, and into my rear passenger door. Ha, since it was just my first car beater to put tons of miles on we just bought it back and kept the $$ since the damage both times were just cosmetic. W/ the second accident we actually ended up making profit on the car. I should go into business.
In your situation, it sounds like you could repair and either swap for Subaru front pieces or pray for a Saab front end. Paint isn't necessarily cheap though to get it to match. Paging Animalpak for expertise!
I bought my Subie from S&S Auto Parts (www.usedsubieparts.com) - he is in the business of parting out Subarus, maybe he'll have something for you.

So are body panels not showing back up on the market? I thought new bumpers were available now. Bumper, hood, fender and done. Ok headlight might be hard to find. If you want it to be perfect then fix the rear damage too.
The amount of folds in that front fender is impressive! I'd say keep it unless you just want a WRX type car and don't care if it's a 9-2x or not.

I took it to my trusted shop this morning, and the owner said that it's not worth repairing the car. I started to notice a rough idle towards the end of the short drive to the shop, and I'm definitely losing some coolant. I guess there is considerable frame damage, and he said that it will never drive the same after a repair. Soooo, I'm leaning toward returning it to stock and taking the full check, and then selling my leftover parts. I still may take it to a different shop as I'm pretty attached to the car, but it sounds like it might be best just to give up on it at this point.
I'll post up a FS thread with everything if I decide to go that route...

Sorry to hear about the car. Dibs on the shift knob
Interested in a legacy GT wagon?

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can find something that can ease the mod bug pretty quick. But I would be interested in your Kartboy SS if you would part that out as well.

Sorry to hear this. The list gets shorter and shorter...
As the vultures descend, I too may be interested in items such as aftermarket up-pipe and/or an axle back exhaust

Haha, come down to Boston some weekend and it can be arranged interested in going stage 2? We could do a swap of uppipe, downpipe, exhaust, and my accessport!
Here is a rough list of what I'll be getting rid of...if I do decide to sell everything, I'll create a new thread:
Kartboy SS (skorpion first in line)
Audio Integrations sub box (10" sub)
Kenwood amplifier with janky under-seat mount (more details to come)
Infinity Reference 10" sub
Awesome WC Lathe Werks SS knob, courtesy of boston_errol
RA flaps with custom mounting brackets for a direct fit on the Saabaru (rear left slightly bent in accident, photos to come)
Brand new KYB Excel-G struts, all 4
Brand new Epic Engineering springs, all 4 (BlkSaabaru4Me first in line)
Rubber Subaru floor mats, all 4, purchased new about a month ago and used for a couple weeks
Stock 6-disc stereo
Thule complete roof rack (feet, cross bars, wind fairing, lock+keys)
Potentially the Cobb high-flow catted DP (would need a stock DP in return)
V2 accessport (would be unmarried of course), repaired/refurbished just a couple months ago by Cobb due to a button not working
Mayyyyybe my 16" Sparco Assetto Gara gold wheels with Blizzak WS60, almost brand new

Hmmm that's actually very intriguing! I am probably going to go carless for a few months as I'm planning on moving to Portland (Oregon) in August and buying a car there, but I'll let you know

Dibs on that Cobb DP if you'll ship it.
Really sorry to hear about the car, btw.

I'll get in touch with you outside of this thread to chat. I'm actually going to be just outside of Boston all week next week for work. Don't think the schedule is going to allow for me to connect since it's packed full. I'll be doing a motor swap into mine at the end of June so new parts and pieces are on my list of things to get

Sounds good - super local = me heading to the Boston area which isn't a problem.

Alright, this is potentially a bit of a crazy idea, but this is what I'm thinking of doing:
1. Get engine inspected by local shop to make sure there was no damage (pretty sure not, it looks like I have a coolant leak but no other mechanical issues).
2. Buy back the from insurance if the engine looks fine
3. Purchase another with a blown engine (may take a few months to find one somewhat local)
4. Transfer engine + all mods over to new
5. Profit...
I think this could make sense financially. ~$2.5K for the donor Saabaru, $1.7K for my salvage, ??? for labor, then I can do timing belt and clutch while my engine is out. I'll keep this thread updated...

I like your thinking. Just have to assure that your engine would still be good to run in the other Saabaru. Yay for crazy rebuilds and projects to keep Saabarus on the road!
