I was planning on reusing the strut mounts and boot covers, assuming they're in decent shape! Have you done your install yet?

I agree with "sdunlimited", I am not a mechanic either but I have done quite a lot on my own and I can say as long as you are handy/ confident in your self have the proper tools and a second hand you can accomplish it on your own...

Good thing I live next door! Lemme know if you need a hand!

No, not yet I am just waiting for the perfect weather weekend and maybe I'll do it at a friends place since he got air tools.

Wow that parts-on-floor pic looks super familiar. Just make sure you mark which part of the strut mount is facing out because they are omni-directional and will spin on their own once you drop the strut. The rears are marked for you.
BTW love that blue! (and gold)

Thanks for that info, very helpful. In case I reuse the strut mounts.

So this happened today
Some guy went through a stop sign at a 2-way stop as I was going through the intersection and clipped my back bumper, which sent me sliding into a parked car.
Here is the intersection:
I was coming down the street with the "do not enter" sign, and he blew through the stop sign that the black limo in the photo has just gone through.
I hit the focus hard enough that it currently sits up on the curb, and the rear right of the car is on the ground.
This is where the guy hit me:
Backed up after forms were filled out to view the damage:
I was pretty close to home so I just drove back...the car still drives fine. This is where it currently sits
Unfortunately I can't get the hood open to view the damage under the hood, but even just with what I can see on the outside I'm worried that it'll be totaled

Sucks.... It's totaled.... Hopefully it's not sorry bud

Sorry to see this - hope it works out better than it looks

NOOOOOOOO This is ridiculous!!!!!! Are you ok? I hope the knob wasn't bad luck. Did you even get to try it?

Luckily I'm totally fine and so was the guy who hit me! I did get to have about 20 minutes of quality time with the knob, and it was awesome! Hoping that my car is not totaled so I can enjoy it some more
I was able to get the hood open and from what I was able to tell, the damage under hood is limited to the windshield washer fluid reservoir and a bent battery tie-down with the battery pushed in a bit.
I'm definitely worried about the body work though doing all the paperwork now and getting in touch with the guy's insurance company, so the only thing I can do now is hope for the best!

Sorry for your loss... Driving in and around this city, it's like a warzone. It hurts to see this. Hope they don't total it on you.

Even if they do total it out, demand the check from the shithead's insurance that hit you and fix it yourself. That you were able to drive it home bodes well for it's repairability.
I believe that this qualifies as 'small overlap offset collision' in the eyes of the IIHS. The inner and outer fenders took the brunt of the frontal impact (bumper was relatively uninvolved), that's why it looks as bad as it does. I assume the airbags didn't go off?

Correct, airbags did not go off. I was thinking that as I was examining the damage at the scene of the accident - I had actually just watched the small overlap test of the new WRX, so that kind of a crash was fresh in mind.
Insurance guy comes tomorrow, so we'll see what he says!

Best of luck on getting her back on the road man. Sorry about the careless driver

Serious bummer about that accident - sucks that impacts like that cause so much damage but I hope you're able to keep her on the road! I spy a Subaru front-end swap in your future.
Glad you were OK though
Offline
you effing kidding me. You just got the damn thing. Buy it back if they do total it and do a 2006-2007 front end swap!
Offline
I'm thinking about the front end swap if it's totaled! Actually got the car in August of 2011 but didn't get around to a "Post My Ride" until a few months ago Still bummed though! Insurance adjuster comes tomorrow morning so the wait is almost over.

Definitely keep us posted w/ how everything goes! Would definitely be a bummer to lose the attractive Saab front-end but if that's the best option it definitely increases the WTF/incognito aspect of the car. ha. Do all the 02-07 front-ends mate correctly? I'm partial to the 04-05 front end but don't think I've seen anyone do that front end on a Saabaru Subaru conversion.

I hope it is, the blobeye is also my favorite WRX front-end. I will be doing more research if it is totaled!

That'd be the route I'd take.

So I was in Oregon this weekend. Imagine my surprise when I go to take the trash out and see this in the driveway. Man I'm sorry bout this- hopefully the insurance company brings her back to life!

Ughhh the news is not good, the adjuster came this morning and was guessing at least $6K in repairs, and said that the car is probably going to be worth about $6K. I asked him about buying it back and he was guessing that the salvage value is probably around $1.5K, meaning I'd get a $4.5K check. Doesn't $6K seem low? I know that in working order I could get way more for that in Boston, as the engine and transmission both have transferable lifetime warranties. The car has 108K, engine has 83K, and the transmission has 70K, but he put the whole thing down as 108K, and said that the warranties don't have any value.
I'll get a copy of the repair list later today and post it up here. Now I gotta decide if I want to try to do a front-end swap or just part it out...

Hmm...thats a tough one. A JDM front clip with motor, etc will easily run $4,500 but it would certainly be badass!
