So we got a Forester...

Wifey and I made the purchase this weekend. Got a killer deal on a '14 Premium w/ cold weather package in Dark Grey. No turbo for us since she's content w/ the base motor & it saved us a couple grand. Overall we're very happy with the purchase so far! We got a super low price quote from a Subie dealer in Reno and although most in CA wouldn't match it, the Auburn Gold Rush Subaru was willing to, so we took a short drive up there from Sacramento and got it on Saturday.

I've only driven it for a short jaunt today so I can't give much in terms of how it drives but it is a little odd looking over at the tach when it's stuck at 2k accelerating. ha. CVT may take some mental getting used to but we're averaging 29mpgs for the 100 miles or so we've driven it. No complaints there!

Now for some pictures!

I think you made a good choice.  You passed on the extended warranty, right?

Yes we did! After searching for a bit we were confident the Forester was the right choice and then it was just a matter of getting the price right. BTW, I messaged you back about your dp, let me know if you still wanta get it off your hands! smile

Definitely passed on the extended warranty. They did give us the pricing on it naturally, but at $1/day I'd rather have the reduced monthly payment we got w/o, and save money on my own for repairs after the regular 60k powertrain warranty is up. Thanks for your recommendation in response to my warranty thread!

Ya, what did Subaru do to qualify that statement? It's zero emissions when not turned? Or just an excuse to put some green leaf on the back of the car to prove they're eco?

No the engine turns off when you are sitting at a stop light, similar to the Prius.  Partial Zero Emissions, what a fucking joke...

Re: So we got a Forester...

I'll have to pay attention when driving in the Forester again, but I'm 90% sure that's not the case. The tach IIRC was still at idle & I could hear the enginge. We rented a C-Max Ecodeisel in Europe on our honeymoon and that engine turning off at stop lights was much more noticeable. Every time I put my foot in on the clutch it would start up again, and I haven't experienced that in the Forester.

Re: So we got a Forester...

Yeah I'm wrong.  Apparently these are the requirements:

This category is to list all partial zero-emissions vehicles. The vehicle does not necessarily need to be a Hybrid vehicle.
-these vehicles have zero evaporative emissions from its fuel system.
-a 15 year (or at least 150,000 mile) warranty on the emissions system
-and meet SULEV tailpipe emission standards.[1][2]

Re: So we got a Forester...

Got it. Ya, I'm very glad the Forester doesn't have that start/stop tech. The C-Max was a pain to do city driving in cuz literally every time you stopped the engine crapped out (which also meant your power steering) and it occassionally would do it when I was just inching forward, like in slow traffic, parking garage, etc. and was quite obnoxious.

Re: So we got a Forester...

It could still drive through some cities and the air out the tailpipe would be cleaner than the air going into the engine smile

Thanks. It's my wife's new car and I haven't driven it much yet but sitting in the passenger seat the acceleration feels normal but just looks odd w/ new gear changes evident from the tach. ha. Still very happy w/ our choice & my wife is loving it so far.

Good to hear. Ya I didn't notice much of a difference for the short drive I've done in it so far. TBD on freeways/longer drives but my wife has liked it so far.

I have decided if for whatever reason we have to replace our Grand Cherokee (gets stolen, totaled, etc), I'm getting a Forester.
