Kind of like it, although DSM was one of the best colors available hmm

Re: Beach's '05 Aero Thread

Oh wow, I didn't think many people would like DSM! Personally, I find it to be THE worst color offered for the 9-2. Old woman Tan is basically what I thought of it. I'm sure it would've looked much better after a full compound and polish but I just don't have much paint left on the car unfortunately. Never owned a blue'ish car so I figured now would be the time to try it out for a change smile
I needed to use a somewhat loud color without being over obnoxious, like matte yellow or something, to promote my vinyl wrap services and for tax purposes as well. I'm happy with it. Next year I'll try out something else.

Teasing after you've already done a full reveal is an odd choice.  biggrin

I like the color you wrapped, I just don't know how well it actually works on our cars (I realize I'm changing my opinion from the "red lettering" thread, but seeing it out in the open with the GTR has me a bit on the fence). But I can certainly appreciate the business rationale for your choice- your car does stand out. That said, I might have chosen the super obnoxious colors just to drive home the sheer availability of options available to those deciding to wrap their vehicles.

Edit: the more I look at the GTR pic, the more I think it is the wheel color that bothers me- it's too warm of a gray/bronze for the coolness of the wrap.

You have to get rid of the amber in the headlights now IMO.  It just looks horrible with the stock headlights.  I like the black mirrors and the grille, but those headlights just stick the fuck out to me haha.

I love this wrap color. It reminds me very much of the Aztec Pearl green that was on my old Civic (except matte).

Valid point! I know I've already revealed the completed project but I'm meaning the "teaser" pics to be the interim before getting some legit shots rather than some shitty garage cellphone pics.  embeer

Totally understandable, The color is definitely not for everyone. The responses I've got locally are either love or hate smile

The idea behind my choice for "Lagoon Blue Matte Metallic" was to go with a color that wasn't easily missed. A color that definitely stood out from the crowd without being too over-the-top or crazy. As much as I love the Matte Yellows, Candy Apple Greens, Matte Orange etc etc I had to keep in mind am still driving a Saab wagon at the end of the day. This car does not need a color that belongs on a supercar IMO, and I most certainly wouldn't want that type of attention. I wanted a more neutral color that people from all ages and types would most likely "like". I've gotten compliments from highschool guys/girls all the way to old women. So far, the feedback has been great! Let's face it, the majority of people would choose a blue/green/teal'ish color over Matte Purple or Chrome lol. It's less likely that Older Folk will approach me wearing crazy colors as well. Vinyl wrapping is barely gaining popularity here and I'm constantly explaining to people what it is. Many think that paying 5k+ for paint is the only way to go. Educating people has been fun and they are wow'd every time.

Lagoon Blue has a Metallic flake to it and it almost changes color with different lighting and looks identical to paint. I think it's nice. In my Sti, I would pass people all the time and they thought the vinyl was paint and it came that way from the factory  facepalm.... Definitely cool, but not the best way to push wrapping.

After:
http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc368/BeachZone1/My%20Sti/370_zpsa512a874.jpg

My first choice of color was Night Blue Matte Metallic, but I had already wrapped a car in it (Below)

http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/b629/DiamondDetailABQ/08%20Subaru%20Sti/IMG_20130818_182642_016_zps4aac5d7b.jpg

I do agree with you on the wheels... I'm not the biggest fan of Matte Silver but that's the color I was stuck with from TireRack sad
Too much Matte. I prefer to have Matte accent Gloss or vice versa as they compliment each other well and make it stand out. I have plans to paint them some sort of gloss color in the future when I have extra fund and the time to do it. I'll most likely go with Gloss Black powdercoat just so it will go with any color wrap I go with in the future.

Thanks for the comments!

Nice write up. It is good to see the detail & care being put into the car, I know soooo many people that think going through a power car wash & shining the tires is a "detail." Not a complete detail though, that is only achieved when they vacum it too..... Looks good!  up

Damn, just saw your reply with opti-coat content rotors.  I mean, yeah, that looks fucking awesome.  I was trying to decide between opti-coat and my typical double coat of CG Jet Seal.

How long will opti-coat bead like that?  Withstand dish soap washes?  can it be removed?

Much appreciated!

Thanks, Chris! Most definitely do! I only use the best (IMO) stuff on my vehicles... but the stuff is not cheap by any means lol. Just really comes down to, "Ya get what ya pay for"

Check out www.carpro-us.com to shop, and www.cquartz.com for info on all CarPro products used in this write-up.

goob_os101 wrote:

I'm not sure how much I used or how much one would need... Just measure your panels and add things up!

For every wrap I do, I order a full roll 5'x75' for a couple reasons:

1.) It's cheaper when you buy more
2.) If/When your wrap is damaged (Door dings, rock chips, scrapes etc etc) you will have plenty left over (from the same lot) to re-wrap any area over again. I had a customer only order enough to do their car and when they had screwed up a panel, they ordered another sheet and the color was slightly off. Important to order extra the first time just incase. On top of that they ended up paying much more for such a small order lol

Thank you Animal! That's too funny and all too true! I get people like that all the time and when they laugh at my prices, I just send them to the 'other guy' that screws up paint on the daily with a rotary buffer... I have fixed a few of his hack-jobs so it will be hilarious if they come back after they see their car once he gets his hands on it!

krazykarguy wrote:

AWESOME! What color are you thinking?! See my above reply to Goob about the amount of material I usually get and why.^^^

Let me know if/when you're ready to order. I can save you a decent amount of money on the vinyl!

Thank TLow!

Opti-Coat has been proven to last years if properly applied and maintained. They actually warranty it to last for a minimum of 5yrs with the Pro Version.

The only way you can remove Opti-Coat is to either abrade it off the surface it is applied to (Wetsanding/Compounding/Polishing) or chemically strip it with a paint remover. It's basically like adding another layer of clearcoat to your paint. Once it's applied and cured it bonds permanently. Cleaners or soaps won't do anything to OC. Try dishsoap washes to any conventional wax or synthetic sealant and I'll guarantee it will grealty reduce it's durability if not strip it completely.

Even though OC cannot be removed by a dishsoap, I wouldn't suggest using anything other than an Auto Shampoo or detailing sprays etc. Feel free to ask me for any product recommendations and I'll help with everything I can.

As I said earlier, Prep and application must be done 100% correctly or the coating will fail, so it's tricky but the consumer version is fairly easy to apply. The solvents in the coating allow for longer working time. Let me know if you need help and I'll guide you through it.

If you want to go with a coating that is basically dummy-proof and looks better than OC, then I suggest CQuartz Ceramic Nano-Coating (Consumer version). Again, application is key but it's much easier than OC and you can layer it as well. CQuartz is absolutely amazing and will last 2+ years if maintained correctly. I've had CQuartz on a Shelby GT500KR I detailed back in April and it still beads like crazy!

Check out the video I made below showing how CQuartz (Consumer version) performs on paint... Waaayyy better than how it reacts to water on my vinyl wrap (Vinyl is much more porous)!

Be sure to watch it in HD and on a computer if you'd like to see the annotations I made to go along with the video. It was my first video so cut me some slack wink
