Making more progress.

Replaced the fuel filter on Sunday.

Ordered headlight armor to protect my headlights now that they are in the condition I want.

Also received this goodie box in the mail

http://i1061.photobucket.com/albums/t463/Jason_Litz/20160210_151746.jpg

Fusion to do the rails, B-pillars and grilles
Duplicolor vinyl and fabric for my front and hatch carpets, and the center consoles.
Duplicolor primer and graphite to refinish my Enkei's in the spring

What is the duplicolor vinyl for? I don't understand the use of it

It is used for Vinyl and Fabric. It is made to respray dashboards, consoles, carpets, headliners etc.

So I am using it to respray the rear hatch carpets and the center console (Center vents, radio surround, shifter surround, side panels etc)

Weird, so the paint fuses to the console and carpet? They seem so unrelated to me, in terms of material biggrin

Re: 92XAero87's 2005 PA Aero

Just picked up the leather interior yesterday. Little elbow grease it will look brand new.

Also on the interior:
2013 WRX Clarion Headunit
2013 Clarion/USB Cable for Ipod Connectivity
2008 WRX HAV Controls (For Knobs)
2005-2007 Single Din Gauge Pod Housing
2008 Subaru Black Door Cubbie
Subaru Cubbie GPS/Phone Mount

The final plans for the dash update. My plan is to have the wires hidden and the cubbie can be closed for a clean look.

Re: 92XAero87's 2005 PA Aero

Everything is starting to come together.

Had to modify the HVAC housing to accept the wider Clarion Headunit. A little more TLC sanding and it be ready to paint.

Found that Rustoleum Hammered Silver matches our OEM dash color with a hint of metallic and am excited to see everything together.

Black accents with the silver trim should look very nice.

Also look to drill the back hole in the cubby for the Ipod Usb and Radar detector wiring and then put a grommet in to hold the wires from falling back.

Pictures will be up soon.

Re: 92XAero87's 2005 PA Aero

That's where my dilemma. I think I am going to keep a single strip just to outline but not as high as originally done. I am currently painting up the trim now. The single strip would just air tight the headunit but wouldn't stick out as much. What do you think?

How much wider did you have to cut the trim piece?  Did it not fit snug after cutting it?

Re: 92XAero87's 2005 PA Aero

it fits pretty snug, the problem is the original hvac has a lip the outlines the exterior. When modifying I had to remove the lip which leaves just a hair amount of space between the unit and the trim on the sides.

I was under the same impression but if you look at the bellow photo. there is a 1/2" on each side of the faceplate area itself.

Not questioning you or anything, but why not just get a Subaru c-124 headunit with Aux and avoid all of that work?

facepalm

Well my father always told me to cut twice and measure once. Oh wait it was measure 64 times and cut once.

Grabbed my original one and made another stab at it. Just finished about 5 minutes ago EST.

But success! No over cut this time. A perfect snug fit.

Pictures will be coming tomorrow as I am too lazy at the moment to take them.

Thank yall for  banghead my head against the wall. Definitely not a job to take lightly.

Re: 92XAero87's 2005 PA Aero

All buttoned up. Looking pretty nice now. Love the black accents. Wish I didn't have to spend 125 to do the HVAC properly. Still pondering the 20 dollar overlays. The cubbie is going to dual as my phone/gps mount.

All functions working as expect after having to repin the reverse harness because they left off the dimmer wire.

Just curious, why did you decide to go with that radio instead of an aftermarket with rear USB?

Re: 92XAero87's 2005 PA Aero

I had a Sony in for the past two years and I just wasn't a fan. I thought about getting a new unit but i wanted to keep to more of a factory looking with another type of WRX headunit. And I was a fan of the Silver painted ones either so I chose the newer one.

Re: 92XAero87's 2005 PA Aero

Makes sense.  I've been using JVC for the last 4 years or so and really like them for the price.  I made sure to get the one with the rear USB, which is surprisingly hard to find on any headunit.  I used a single din and just ran the rear USB into a tray right beneath the radio.

Re: 92XAero87's 2005 PA Aero

New badges are in. The SAABARU lives haha. Probably going to stick with the SAAB total black. Thoughts? Also placement. I was thinking at the trunk line on the right side.

Also I am going to be getting my Aero painted in the spring/summer. And remembered I tried this with Plasti-dip before. What are your thoughts of the Volve-esq black top section on the hatch?

Re: 92XAero87's 2005 PA Aero

SAABARU centered in the in place of the Saab logo on that hatch piece would be the best place imho. If painting it anyway could have that section filled in and smoothed over to remove the protruding part. Not sure about the black section, the contrast with the blue might not be enough but hard to say.
