Re: F**K MINIVANS! I'm building a motovan!

Update: Had decided to get a crew cab diesel pickup with a shell for the dogs and a camper.  Then my dog got sick and the vet bills have been, shall we say, astronomical.  Put it on the backburner until last night.  Found this on CL, emailed a few times with the guy, picked it up this morning, beat out a bunch of construction workers because the seller wanted it to go to a moto guy.  Insulation behind the pegboard, moveable toolbox/chock/bench setup, very reasonably priced, and only 41k on the clock!  No A/C or cruise, but I'll get over that, did fine at 80 on I-25 on the way home.  Looking forward to making this my own.  In the mean time, anyone want to buy a Ural?  Part of the bargaining with the wife dictates the old Russian broad move on...

Re: F**K MINIVANS! I'm building a motovan!

Congrats, I suppose. I logged a lot of miles in Econoline sped vans back when I was working Residential cutting my teeth in the world of special education. The detail that stands out the most for me was they made my right foot fall asleep very uncomfortably after a few minutes of driving around, thanks to pedals placed really high off the floor, causing one's foot to hinge at very steep angles. Hopefully that detail has either been addressed or was more an issue of my own circulation issues than an inherent design flaw. Hope this van treats you well.

I think so smile.  I already found a bench seat to throw in, the tool box is pretty quick to remove, I just need to make sure it doesn't interfere with the seat brackets.  If it does I might re-mount it sideways and set up some quick disconnect chocks.

Nick, I didn't feel the discomfort you mentioned when I drove it home, but I'll look for it.

If it does become an issue, perhaps attaching a wood block to the floor to rest your heel on, a couple inches higher in relation to the pedals, would alleviate the issue.

HA. I drove an E150 and an E350 Refrig Box truck as a job in HS and throughout college. That was my number one complaint. My right leg would ACHE after a day of driving. But I drove it six days a week in and around downtown in stop and go.

Thought it was just me.

Get rid of all the Fox horribleness, whatever you do. If you decide on a mural, go unicorn or go home.

You can't see the pic?  Shows up good for me...

What's wrong with Fox?  My street boots are Comp 5S Shorty's, damn fine boot for the price and surprisingly waterproof.

I'm sure Fox makes great products, but around here, Fox stickers are attitude/ lifestyle signifiers along the lines of Tapout stickers. I associate Fox stickers with aggressive hillbillies in lifted Ford F-150s, having dealt with tons and tons of this demographic on my infuriating commute. I'm willing to bet the majority of people in MA with Fox stickers don't do any offroad motorsports, much like most people with Tapout stickers don't do any MMA fighting.

I can see the picture now. I like that rig a lot. Still needs moar unicorn though. up

Re: F**K MINIVANS! I'm building a motovan!

Went out and sat in the van to see if I could understand your pedal complaints.  What size shoe do you wear?  I will admit, the brake pedal seems a bit high, but the gas seems normal.  I wear a size 13, definitely helps.

I'm a size 11.5. I seem to recall the brake being the major issue. I did 99% local driving, going from school to the residence to various community locations. Lots of stop and go driving, so lots of going back and forth between the two pedals. I bet foot/ leg fatigue would be less of an issue with giant-ass feet and a lot of highway driving.  biggrin

Making more sense.  This will be a mostly long distance vehicle so I don't expect to have the same issues.  Anyone have experience adding things like at 110V outlet to a vehicle?  Or a 12V/110V fridge/freezer?

Re: F**K MINIVANS! I'm building a motovan!

6 or 8cyl? 4x4? Sorry if I missed it.

I spent 7 years in one with my previous employer. Good vans, other than the front suspension woes that plagued the fleet they were otherwise solid. Suspension woes were normally premature tie rod replacement and alignment problems.

Get the seats with the armrests attached from the boneyard, the FNG* van had none so it wasn't something you realized you missed until you moved up and got em. Also, if you didn't know, you can outfit it pretty well here http://www.americanvan.com/ Quite a bit of my shelving, center console etc. came from them when I built the Astro.

Funny story, that dog in your avatar recently cost me 6 times what the van did.  One of the reasons I'm not in a Sprinter smile.
