Re: Recall?

I just called my local SAAB dealer (Calgary, Canada) and they confirmed the recall. Apparently they need the car to check to see if the work is required as it is VIN specific.
They did not have any details of effected VINs.

Re: Recall?

Inspected mine yesterday (found a torn outer CV boot  facepalm), there is rust, but it's solid under the rust. I'd imagine a couple of years out, this WILL be a problem. Saab dealer says no open recalls on this particular VIN at the moment, didn't want the NHTSA number, and says I'll get a letter from Saab if it's real.

Re: Recall?

I was under mine for an oil change yesterday and the control arms looked fine.  The very forward part of the subframe, however, was starting to rust in a number of places.   unamused

Re: Recall?

Saw a segment on the Subaru/Saabaru control arm recall on Motorweek a few days ago and on their web site: http://www.motorweek.org/auto_news/moto … inter_woes

Confirms that we should hear more in November.

Same here. He didn't find a recall for the control arm but found an outstanding fuel valve recall. It is November so I thought I would call and try and get this going before the snow starts to fly. He wouldn't do anything with it unless I had the letter. He did tell me to schedule the fuel one though.

Saab USA says we should get the letter within 6-8 weeks. The campaign has not started yet.

Re: Recall?

Anybody got a letter yet from Saab?  The NHTSA recall website had copy of the letter that will go out to 9-2X owners.  Good explanation of the problem there too.  Seems the drain hole gets plugged and the arm rusts from the inside out!

Re: Recall?

I also noticed that phase II (2005-2006 vehicles) begins around December 5th. If Saab is on the same schedule as the Subaru than the 9-2x will get its recall letters sent out the 21st of this month to begin taking service calls for December 5th.

Re: Recall?

I'll inspect mine next time I bring it to work. I'm not expecting to find anything though. Since I bought the car in VA, and it was originally an OH car, I had the place I bought it from put it on a lift for me so I could inspect the underside before I bought it. I was surprised to find very minimal rust. Even the factory exhaust had barely any surface rust. I think the original owner probably didn't drive it much in the winter.

Tell me about it.  I got super busy and it gets late early these days.

I've tried to get into my buddies shop three times since I posted that and they have all slipped through the cracks one way or another.

please hold.

On a mandatory safety recall don't they get the owner's info from DMV registration? Should get the letter.
