Get Firefox!

If you're an Internet Explorer user, you probably see something new up in the top corner of the page -- a get Firefox button. Click it, and you can download the latest stable version of Firefox (plus the nice Google Toolbar built in).

Reaons why you should do this:

* Firefox is a sweet browser. I've been using it since it was called Phoenix (and then Firebird, and now Firefox smile ), and have never looked back. This isn't your daddy's Netscape -- this is a slick browser with more features, (arguably) more speed, and more cool stuff than Internet Explorer.

* Cool stuff like tabbed browsing (one browser window with little tabs for each page you are reading, instead of a million browser windows), excellent pop up and ad blocking, and a truckload of extensions (want to control your music player from your browser? always have a weather indicator? gmail checker? blog watcher?).

* Your pages will still look and work the same in Firefox. Yes, long ago, if you didn't use Internet Explorer all web pages would look like it was 1985 all over again. Firefox displays pages as well or better than Internet Explorer, so you don't need to worry about compatability. Plus, Firefox imports all your bookmarks and settings so you don't need to re-setup everything.

* Security. If you use Firefox, you don't have to worry (as much) about spyware and junk getting into your computer. Make your parents use Firefox and you won't hear from them as much saying "fix my computer!"

* saab92x.com makes $1 if you download and try Firefox. 100% of this money goes towards our hosting bill. Google is running a little thing to try to spread the word about Firefox, which is where the buck comes from -- thanks Google!

* If you use Firefox, you don't see that download button anymore (only IE users will see it).

Firefox is great. You will enjoy it. If not, you didn't waste anything but a minute of your time, and you helped the site. If you do try Firefox and have questions or problems, please post here. If you already use Firefox, post your tips and links!

If you're one of the 12% saab92x.com users who already uses Firefox, sweet! You get a embeer

If you use Safari, Camino, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera, or something else, you get a  banana

Re: Get Firefox!

Some commercial websites don't like Firefox (the admin panel of the software that runs pcpcdallas.com, for instance, is not Firefox friendly) but for pretty much everything else it is the best.  Remembers all your usernames and passwords better than IE too.

Re: Get Firefox!

FWIW, I get equal amounts of attempted spyware with Firefox as well as I.E.

Adaware tends to find more "junk" on I.E.
Spybot tends to find more "junk" loaded onto Firefox.

I always run both anti-spyware programs before I shut down and have experimented with this.
So in terms of normal system security, surprisingly I don't think one is better than the other.

BUT, I'd bet I.E. is more likely to be attacked by something big.

I use both browsers, whichever does what I want more convieniently.

Re: Get Firefox!

I use firefox ~99% of the time.  The tabbed browsing is nice!   Unfortunately, I do need to open IE every now and then if firefox can't do the job.

Re: Get Firefox!

Have a Ford Exploder.  It actually did explode on me.  Sort of.  Belt tensioner pully fragged at 79 mph outside Corbin, KY.  Lots of lights go off when you don't have a serpentine belt.

On edit, FF rules.  Even if studies have shown that it doesn't have fewer attacks or anything.  It just works nicer.

uh-oh, being stuck in Corbin with or without a serpentine belt would be dangerous.

I hardly run spyware progs any more. After I started using FF they never found anything. Spybot might find "things" in your cache but with the way FF renames everyfile in the cache they can't run. As far as overall security? IE is WAY worse than FF. ActiveX is a major hole in IE, not to mention that progs can install stuff in IE w/o you even knowing. FF has no ActiveX and it w/n allow anything to be installed without approval.

Right now I'm using FF 1.5rc3 and it is great. I also use Portable FF for when I'm on the road. Runs on a USB stick.

Re: Get Firefox!

I ran across a really cool Firefox extension over the weekend...

http://ietab.mozdev.org/

This extension lets you use IE's rendering engine on a tab by tab basis under Firefox.  Pretty useful for the occasional site that doesn't render right under Gecko.  You can even use Windows Update, etc. with it.

Of course you could always cut and paste URLs to IE but this is alot more convenient and you get to stay in the less annoying Firefox interface smile  up

Re: Get Firefox!

I'm having problems with Firefox not displaying photos properly on saab92x.com.  About half the time the photos show the forum code for the picture but not the actual picture.  It's almost guaranteed if the photo is hosted on saab92x.com.  Firefox didn't start doing this until the 1.5.0.1 release.

No, it started as soon as I put 1.5.0.1 on, probably a couple of weeks ago.
