Re: Your favorite military weaponry

arrow-up That's impressive up

A couple years back me and a buddy of mine drew up plans to make a treb with a 6' high A frame. We did all the math and even made a couple scale models as proof of concepts. Maybe if you post some pictures it will spark me to get back onto that project smile

You will have to go bigger than that. Our arm is 19' from the pivot to the end of arm.

I can't wait to see the F-35 up close. They want to put some in Burlington but a bunch of people are complaining they will be louder that the F-16's currently stationed there.  facepalm

They used to put 12 cylinders in subs (24 pistons, 2 crankshafts).  I interned at the company that made the crankshafts for them.  they were neat-o

Speaking of crazy russian military crap. Check out this underwater rifle. Looks like a modified AK with a big metal dart seated into the 7.62x39mm case. Silly ruskies.

Re: Your favorite military weaponry

Took these on Wed. This is from the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, down inside a control room. That door is 8" thick steel and concrete, and the whole installation is mounted on massive shock absorbers.

This one is self explanatory- Right outside Ellsworth AFB. A B-1 took off while I was inside, shaking the whole building. That is a serious machine.

Re: Your favorite military weaponry

Like some of the earlier posters I too sometimes struggle with my love of expensive killing machines but in the end it is hard to deny that many - especially the aircraft - represent the ultimate meeting of form and function and there is beauty in that.  Plus fighter jets sound fucking cool.

Here is some Mirage 2000 porn from the movie Les Chevaliers du Ciel

That sounds like an epic bachelor pad. You could just fill the silo with beer and be set for life. Or have one bad ass pool.
