FS NoVA/DC/MD: Breveille Cafe Modena espresso machine

$50 OBO

Local pick-up only.  It's also up on Craigslist DC and here's the text of my ad:

MSRP for a new one is $150, so one-third the price! Lightly used in very good/excellent condition. Mostly used to make a couple of lattes on weekends. This is a great "entry level" home espresso machine for the beginning barista. Very easy to use. Unlike "higher end" semi-automatic espresso machines, the Cafe Modena isn't quite as fussy about coffee grind (it does need to be ground relatively fine; however, I've been able to "get away" with using a blade grinder instead of a more expensive burr grinder). Pressurized portafilter, excellent temperature control, and pre-infusion make it easty to get consistently good (not great) shots with nice crema. No frills steam wand (meaning no frother enhancement attachment, which IMHO isn't worth beans) with lots of steam pressure on tap make it easy to steam/froth milk. Auto-purge feature adjusts pressure after frothing to reduce downtime to make the next shot. Stainless steel thermoblock boiler and 15 bar pump. Passive cup warming plate. 40 ounce removable water reservoir.

The Cafe Modena is a very compact machine at 9" W x 11.75" H x 9.25" D so can fit in even the smallest counter space (mine sits on a 12" wide sliver of counter next to the stove). But despite its small size, it has some heft (14.5 pounds) due to its stainless steel construction.

Comes with: double-shot filter (the only one I've used), single-shot filter, and ESE (easy serving espresso) pod filter; tamper; stainless steel milk frothing pitcher; and two stainless steel shot "mugs." Will also throw in a bag of coffee beans. And I'll de-scale the machine before selling.

Sorry, but I don't have the box or the manual; however, you can download the manual and learn more about how to use the little Breville here: http://brevilleusasupport.com/product/esp6sxl

Some websites to learn more about the Breville Cafe Modena:

Some history ... I bought this to replace my old Gaggia Classic that gave up the ghost about 3-4 years ago. While not as "industrial" as the Gaggia, the little Breville has done exactly what I wanted ... make lattes on weekends. Am "moving up" to a Saeco Incanto Deluxe superautomatic espresso machine for daily duty so my Breville needs to find a new home.

For one of my 9-2X brethren, I might be able to make that happen.  Problem is that I don't have the original box.  So it would involve a lot of bubble wrapping, etc.  Ideally, something you want to double-box if possible.  I'm guessing I'd need to charge at least $20 to ship.  At that point, it might not be worth it to the buyer.  But if you're interested, let's talk.
