I didn't mention the MP5. That's why I'm saying you should go class III and get MOAR GUNZ.

Thought about it. The MP5k above would end up being Title II as SBR, and the Saiga 12 would probably end up cut and recrowned as an SBS.
Thought about an SBR Ar-15, and am still thinking about a SWR Trident-9.

He's not kidding. Kennesaw, GA has a law on the books that really does say all households must own a gun (although it isn't enforced).

And there was a huge outcry when the GA legislature wanted to take the stars and bars off the GA flag.  banghead

My DMPS AP4 308 came with specific instructions for breaking in the barrel.  It does help preserve long term accuracy in it.  I didn't do it for the heck of it.

Barrel lapping today is much more accurate and effective than older measures, and over-cleaning firearms increases wear  in some cases more than simple operation. I also tend to agree with Gale McMillan on the issue of using ~200 rds to fully "break in" a barrel so that you're 200 rounds closer to replacing the bbl. Chrome lined barrels make the "necessity" for break in even more non-existent, IMO.
The only time I might ever (keyword might) "properly" break-in a barrel would be on a stainless steel match barrel. Even then it's doubtful.

Just my opinion smile

How did you like the AP4 in general?

I wish I had saved for one when they were on sale sad I really want one. I do have an affinity for different actions, and I'm sure this has a little to do with it.
A side note and the most interesting thing about the gun is that it's not actually a grip safety. It's the squeeze-cocking mechanism.
Basically, it's a striker-fired pistol. The striker is cocked when you grip the weapon, and decocked when you let go. No need for external safeties because of this.
Fascinating weapon

Tromix Saiga 12 conversion w/ modifications. This and a modified 870 tactical are the only shotguns I'll ever buy. I've had a serious boner for Saiga 12s for years now, but this is more money than I'd like to spend at the current. Mags are also expensive.

I don't know how much or what you mean by modified but after months of waiting I finally added this to the collection.  With the recoil-pad Remington is using these days roxor  I spend Saturday on a farm running probably 150rounds of everything from  7 1/2 Bird shot  to Federal LE 00 High Velocity and no red marks on my shoulder or deep bruising.

I thought that was half the fun! My Enfield Mk III* will bruise the crap out of my shoulder (it's a metal buttplate) but it's so much fun to shoot.

No love for the Saiga, Wagn?
I mean to write 870 tactical or modified 870 police (mag. tube extension and cut and re-crowned barrel would be the main two). I would take a Benelli M1S.90 if I found one for cheap, but I wouldn't buy one new or anything--especially when I could rather have the Saiga.

I don't know how much use I'd get out of it though. It would be more fun/novelty than anything, and I'd probably end up shooting mostly slugs out of it. I don't shoot trap/skeet/hunt

Re: Firearms Thread - decision street (UPDATE PAGE 4! Range Report)

I love the Saiga.  I think it is funny that only recently our armies have begun to use non-pump action shotguns while the soviets have had them for years.

on the 870's, and I have learned this the hard way..... buying something then doing research   down though for what I paid I will not complain. the "870 Police" models do not share the same assembly line with the other Tactical & Express 870's.  I am pretty certain that the standards are a bit better and quality would be reflected.
oh and from what I have read.......No Plastic trigger groups.

The 870 Tactical uses a composite trigger group ( I was very disappointed in finding this via research ) the entire thing except for a few levers and springs is made of plastic.   Brownells = easy fix but it will bump what I paid for the gun up to what I would have paid at the cheapest retail.

So if you ever consider 870's do yourself a favor and hunt around for a Police version.

Edit to add:  I want a Benelli M4 but will not pay 2K for one with adjustable stock.

SL7s are pretty sweet, and somewhat goofy but in an awesome way. HK91 is a bit more my style, though. I debated buying a PTR-91 for quite some time, but the price of .308 is overwhelming.

The SL7 is perhaps the nicest-to-shoot rifle I've ever put to my shoulder.  It's got a steel butt-cap, but I've put 100 rds. through it in one sitting wearing a t-shirt and had no bruising at all.  THe gas-delayed roller-locked bolt mechanism really softens the recoil.  I considered the 91 when I bought this, and sorely wanted one.  The deal I got on this was too good to pass up though.   The shop had it for a while and it wasn't moving, so the owner made me an offer I couldn't refuse.  The polygonal rifling that the 91 lacked and the longer sight radius than the 91 both made it more accurate.

The 91 is one of the firearms I'm kicking myself for not buying when they were legal here.  I also wanted a reasonable quality AK, and really liked the Steyr AUG.  There are a few more, but those are ones I regret not buying "back in the day."

Out of curiosity, how difficult is disassembly with the SL7?
I'm not sure if you're familiar with disassembly of other HK rifles, but if you are is it at all similar?

It's not difficult, but it's not a "field-strip" kind of weapon.  I don't know the 91 disassembly, but I expect that it is possible to field-strip it pretty far down.  I last had one in my hands over 20 years ago.

The top of the receiver is held in place by a single allen-head bolt.  It comes off to the rear, then the bolt can be removed.  I think the bolt is the same as the 91.  If you separate the two halves of the bolt, it's important to get the alignment of the rotating portion right, but it's not hard.  It's just a longer process than a military-style design would permit.

I haven't done it since I shot on Saturday.  I just did a quick cleaning.  I intend to give it the full works in the next couple of days.  I'll try to remember to get some pictures.

Nothing yet. I was seriously considering a P7PSP because I found some for an amazing price, but I don't want to have to retrain myself for a old European style mag-release.
Also, Comp-tac doesn't offer MTAC Minotaur bodies to fit the SP-01, which really sucks. I'll probably call them next week and see if I can get one special-ordered/molded for me.

Right now the MC Operator is in the lead, but I'm still undecided

KX3s kick ass. How is it on the 16"?
I'd love to have a 5.56 AR with 10.5" BBL and a KX3 with FDE accents.

Milt Sparks is the way to go for a full leather IWB. Excellent choice.
I'm calling Comp-Tac tomorrow about a custom MTAC Minotaur body for an SP-01, or perhaps even an SP-01 with a TLR-1 to see what they can do for me

Great fread.

I'm finally legal here in Illinois, I received my FOID card on Fiday.  So I took a class with a certified NRA instructor today and it was 1 on 1, 4.5 hours long and we go to the range on Tuesday.
I'll be picking up a Glock G32 or Sig P226.

I'm leaning towards the Glock because it's almost $400 less than the Sig.  However, there is a used Sig for $700. that I might get.  I will be shooting the shit out of both and will make my decision Tuesday.

arrow-up Go sig ( sorry had to throw that out there as a 1911 guy ) also look into the C.P.O. Sigs as they are usually pretty cheap but certified by the factory for reliability.

Aggie what is the weight of that rifle??  how is the recoil??  and on muzzle blast..... my socom16 has by far the worst muzzle blast I have ever been subject to, short of a .50cal.
