HIDS (beam pattern pic updated!)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI … 7987439679

What do you guys think? I think the price is outstanding but what about the bulbs themselves? Opinions?

Re: HIDS (beam pattern pic updated!)

They don't look too bad....has a one year warranty but it also says all sales final (exchange only).  Pretty cheap price for HID setup....you get what you pay for....sometimes

Nice feedback they have:

Re: HIDS (beam pattern pic updated!)

Uh, Unless you want HID highs (which won't work well because of their non-instant response, although when they're on, WOW!)
these won't work on our H1 cars. The kits are for 9005/06/07 set-ups, so it isn't plug and play anymore. They WOULD work on my Audi though:banana:. Hmmmmm.

Scargo - 9-2  about to be well lit today. Audi about to be even better lit today, possibly more so later....

Re: HIDS (beam pattern pic updated!)

Okay, the color temp is WAY on the blue end of the scale, not sure but that's probably tiring on the eyes.

The light output is "only" 2700 lumens. By comparison,  factory HID's have about 4000 + lumens,
HIR lows have 1850 lumens, HIR Highs 3800 lumens. Stock bulbs have between 1200 to 1500 lumens.

So, you're mostly getting color for your $260, and the color isn't most likely the most useful for driving.

Just my $0.02,

Re: HIDS (beam pattern pic updated!)

I'd a got something in the 4000-5000 range. The 8000 will be extremely blue through the non-coated, reflector housing of the 92x. You could'a easily found a H1 5000K kit for close to that price on ebay.

Re: HIDS (beam pattern pic updated!)

6000k is still recognizably "bluer" that juat about anything you'll see on the road.  Most xenons on the road are 4300k.  I got a set of those for my other car, and they are plenty blue (actually mostly just really white) for me.  Another thing to consider is that anything above 6000 you will have a significant reduction in visable light output.

please take some pictures after you install.  If our stock reflectors work well with plug-n-play kits, i will consider buying a set.

I'm pretty interested too at that price.

Kinda funny his auction for the H1 kit shows an STI:

illzguju - I will also be very interested in seeing some pictures. Both of the product and of the final result. Try and take some before and after pictures in the dark so we have an idea how these lights compare to stock.

Thanks!
Erich

I'll be installing my 5000k hids tonight.  I'll keep everyone posted.  Finding a place to mount the ballast in that tight engine bay is going to take some work.

Do the silencer and air scoop delete and you'll have a big empty area in the fender for at least the passenger side one big_smile

So your car came without the HID/Leather package?

Re: HIDS (beam pattern pic updated!)

Yup, didn't care for the leather when i test drove a car with it.

The passenger side seems to have room for the ballast once you remove the ram air scoop.  The drivers side seems a bit more cramped tongue

Re: HIDS (beam pattern pic updated!)

5000k HID's installed banana

Wasn't hard at all.  It just took me more time to find a good location to mount the ballast and wiring.  For the passenger side, i mounted the ballast on a black bracket right infront of the shock tower.  On the drivers side, you need to remove the battery to have more room to work.  I mounted the ballast inbetween the batery and the fuse box.  Everything works perfectly and the engine bay still looks 100% stock.

Very happy with the lights.  100x more light output compared to the crappy stock halogen bulbs.  5000k = Pure white light smile

I also painted my stock calipers glossy black.  Came out nice....especially behind those lovely PFF7s cool
