Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

This car has added 30 mins to my commute time.  It has forced me to take every twisty backroad between my home and work.  I'm learning to deal with this. sad

I love the car but...

I cant get my fingers on all 4 buttons to roll up the windows at once...
No Lights in the mirrors on the sun visors.
seats are very very uncomfortable for me (I know this will be the reason if i ever sell the car one day.)

Are you really big or really small?  Can you get some aftermarket seats?

To increase/decrease radio illumination, push and hold the power button for a few seconds, then release.  There are seetings for lights on and off.  It's also in your manual. tongue

I've heard from a subaru buddy that slamming the doors when the windows are down can loosen the windows. Can anyone back this up? they do feel kind of cheap, so I wouldn't be surprised..

I love the car, but do have a couple gripes.  Stereo controls on the wheel would have been great, and there is quite a bit of cabin noise when traveling on the freeway.

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

gripes

1. Stereo not bright enough, along with the AC and other stuff not being visible in sunlight.

2. Sunroof is a pita to close.

3. Doors sound light... and friends always slam them due to this.   I almost feel like putting some weight in them to slow them down... but worry the added mass would be worse on the slamming.

4. Low beams suck... It barely goes 100-150 feet and then ends, makes me worry about going fast with the low beams.

5. Low end power could be better.

FIFTH GEAR!!

It's 100% a highway cruising gear.  Going 70 in 5th, I dare you to try and pass someone without downshifting.  My 2000 Jetta 1.8T had WAY more top gear passing power.

My only gripe with the 9-2x is that ladies haven't been checking me out in my new ride yet.  Instead I get more guys checking out my ride. Booooo.

I hear ya... unless you are at over 75 mph 5th gear is a joke.  Once above 3,000 rpms in 5th it isn't too bad, but still way less than my 1.8t was.

Then again, my 1.8t wasn't stock.  260 ft-lbs of torque at a low rpm and shorter gearing helped out a lot. big_smile  I could be a lot of cars while not even downshifting out of 4th gear on the highwa (4 speed auto).  19psi.... ah.... yes, I miss the low end.

That being said, I think a few mods will really wake up the low end on the 9-2.  TBE and AP and low end should no longer be a problem.

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

I hate the seats,
the windows
wind noise at high speed
AC wierd noise
floormats with wear spots in 3 weeks
speakers (it is a sports car however)
Whining sound (differential I think?)
Visor mirror is embarrasing,
visor mirrors belong in a hyundai, not even a Subaru
but I love this car, and even like the shifter now that I am used to it.

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

It seems alot of people find the seats uncomfortable.  I haven't had a problem, maybe I fit in them perfectly or maybe I've never experienced a really comfortable car seat.  I'm a pretty big guy (6'2", 250+), I ride with the seat all the way back and completely lowered.  They hug me in the corners and I've driven extended periods of time with no leg or back pains.

My previous car was a 2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS, so I guess I'm just used to all the problems you guys are describing here. My #1 issue with 99.9% of all new cars and car makers is: When the hell are you gonna provide an AUX input on your stereos? WTF? Get with the program guys!

That's probably part of Subaru's design solution to keep the hardware safe and still generate enough force to seal against the door opening when you close the door.  Its tough to design headerless doors that seal well.

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

My only real gripe is the visor. Others have said it and I'll say it again: They're freakin' cheap! I hate 'em. The last car I had with visors like these (sans lights and as dinky as these are) was a 1987 Isuzu Imark. Every car I've had since - an '86 626, a 97 Escort ZX2, a 95 Eclipse, a 95 pathfinder and an 03 Jetta had lighted visors that didn't seem as cheap. Unbelievable.

Re: Ok, gripes about the 9-2x.

Three I didn't notice mentioned above:

The cup-holders suck.

There aren't enough power sockets to keep cellas, GPSes, etc, charged up.

Brake pedal too close to the accelerator pedal (for heel-toeing).

And to add to the chorus:

Flimsy doors.

Hard to read console lights.

Noisy stock tires.

Goofy sunroof controls.

Seats easy to scuff, dirty.

The Subaru engineers need to have a pow wow with the Mini Cooper engineers cause the mini's doors and windows are some of the best I've ever seen.

What makes them so good?  I've been impressed with the quality of the door sealing in the 9-2x, quiet and no leaks.  The floppy glass is a little off-putting, i must say.
